Following the approval of the zoning applications for a new regional hospital earlier this month, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens and Essex County Warden Tom Bain sent a letter to provincial leaders reinforcing the region’s commitment to the project and letting Ontario’s new Premier and Health Minister know WE ARE READY to move forward with planning.

Thank you Mayor Dilkens, Warden Bain and everyone who continues to support this project.

This is great news. Now that it’s 3 years later, what’s the status update on the hospital?
In October 2020 after all of the agreed-upon conditions, including proper zoning of the site and ministry approval of the project, Windsor Regional Hospital purchased the 60-acre property at the corner of County Rd. 42 and the 9th Concession.
In the 2021 Budget, the Ontario government committed $9.8 million in funding for Stage 2 planning costs for the development of the new state-of the art acute care hospital.
The next steps of the planning process will take approximately 18 months to complete and include a detailed description of the programs to be delivered, the staffing, equipment and space required, and preliminary designs.
