David Musyj, President & CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital, is a busy guy these days. As part of the hospital’s move toward a new acute care hospital, he is meeting with community groups to share the hospital’s story and vision for the future. This is a presentation from earlier this year at All Saints’ Church.

There many things to consider when designing a hospital. As you noticed with your experience, the design of the front entrance can be as important as the Emergency Room. Right now WRH is working on a project to standardize our services between our two campuses and implement best practices in all departments. This way, when it comes time to design a hospital, it can be built around these best practices. Building a new hospital gives us a unique opportunity to improve and optimize services for our patients. We want to make sure we get it right.
As for the food, that is one of the things patients comment on the most at WRH. Ever since we introduced the menu system at our Met campus– where patients get to choose what they want to eat and when – our patient satisfaction scores have more than doubled. Soon patients at our Ouellette Campus will enjoy the same experience.
In March, 2011, I was admitted into L.U.H. for surgery. Before then I went in to see if I’d be accepted for the surgery. It was then that I found out that patients go outside for a walk daily. It was right beside where the helicopter landed! The doorway had so many people, going in and out, taxi pickup, ambulances, you name it. Way too crowded. I think it would be good if there was an entrance to the front as well as to the back where visitors could come in from their parking, hopefully to cut down the # of people going in and out of the same entrance. Also, the hospital was so jam packed! Many beds in just one room and several beds in the hallways too! I didn’t find the food very appetizing. I myself am a P.S.W. of 25+ years in Windsor. So I have been a patient in a hospital, have had R.Ns visit me at home, but most of all have cared for many people. Hopefully, I will not have to be the patient again. If you have any questions or want comments, please feel free to reach me. Also, I have never had my driver’s licence but now my surgeon has told me that I can get it. Due to my work and the # of days I work weekly, I don’t think I will ever get my licence. Walking is better. I am for the bus to go directly to the Mega Hospital 100% !
